This is a list of major and supporting characters that appear in The Amazing World of Gumball. Gumball Watterson is a twelve-year-old blue cat who is prone to causing mischief across the town due to not staying inside of the box. He is fairly egotistical and a veteran snarker; despite this, Gumball has a big heart and is surprisingly selfless. Although Gumball can be intelligent at times, he is not very wise, often doing things in the most convoluted of manners and gearing his energy towards fruitless endeavors. Although Gumball can be cynical towards society and the people around him, he ultimately does believe that there is a supposed way out of such a lifestyle. Darwin Watterson is Gumball's foster fish brother and his best friend.
The animated comedy television series The Amazing World of Gumball - features a wide array of primary and supporting characters, all of whom reside in the fictional American city of Elmore. The series primarily revolves around the daily life of the cat Gumball Watterson and his family—adoptive brother Darwin , sister Anais, and parents Nicole and Richard. Gumball's fellow Elmore Junior High students also have frequent recurring roles throughout the series. Creator Ben Bocquelet conceived The Amazing World of Gumball in while working as a development artist for Cartoon Network Development Studio Europe ,   and based several of its characters on previous sketches characters he had created for commercials. He is a year-old  mischievous blue cat who lives with his family in the fictional California city of Elmore.
They frequently find themselves involved in various shenanigans around the city, during which time they interact with fellow family members—younger sister Anais, mother Nicole, and father Richard— and an extended supporting cast of characters. Bocquelet based several of the series' characters on rejected characters from his previous commercial work and making its premise a mixture of "family shows and school shows", which Cartoon Network was heavily interested in. He pitched The Amazing World of Gumball to the network and Turner Broadcasting executive Daniel Lennard subsequently greenlit the production of the series. One unique feature of the series is its lack of stylistic unity.
