Should the PCWHF receive grants from industry, these are received at arms-length, control remains with the PCWHF at all times and organisations are not involved in the development of content. Where an activity carried out by the PCWHF is connected to a received grant, a declaration will be made. However, the PCWHF has a policy of being transparent regarding funding received from the pharmaceutical industry. The PCWHF have a thorough regulation process where they ensure that the forum is not unfairly influenced by any commercial company, this is because the forum understands how their dependence on commercial funding can be seen as a negative factor. Members of the board work separately from the corporate sponsors and are responsible for ensuring that the PCWHF follows the correct procedures.
This is the first in our policy series focusing on how the women's health sector can work together to address the priorities and actions identified in the National Women's Health Strategy NWHS. In his introductory remarks, Dr Roach emphasised the need to affect cultural change in the way that we provide women's health care. The forum brought together a range of policy officers, clinicians and researchers working across the women's health sector to share their knowledge and expertise with the broader group, as we collectively work towards improving health outcomes for women and girls in Australia. Participants engaged in a constructive discussion centring around identifying existing successful initiatives, both within Australia and internationally, that can be leveraged either through expansion of existing programs, or adaptation of successful initiatives to address an unmet need.
